Biography

Ryan Painter is a Senior Associate Attorney in Braun Kendrick’s business and estate planning practice group.  He focuses his practice in the areas of Elder Law, Estate Planning, Probate Litigation, and Municipal Law.  He also advises individuals and closely held businesses on a variety of matters, including entity formation, business planning, and real estate.  He is a licensed attorney in Michigan and Indiana.

 

Ryan is the former Director of the Elder Abuse and At-Risk Adults Program at the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan, and has expertise in prosecuting complex financial fraud involving elderly and vulnerable adult victims.  He has served on the Michigan Department of the Attorney General’s Elder Abuse Task Force, and is one of the authors of the Michigan Vulnerable Adult Team Protocol (Mi-VAT).  He served as a two-time member of the faculty of the United States Department of Justice National Institute for the Prosecution of Elder Abuse (NIPEA), and has worked closely with the Michigan Department of the Attorney General and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to increase the training and education provided to police, prosecutors, and Adult Protective Service workers about elder financial fraud.  He is also a founding member of the Michigan Elder Justice Coordinating Council (MEJCC), and is passionate about protecting the financial assets and property of elderly and vulnerable adults.

 

Ryan is a graduate of Notre Dame Law School, where he was selected as a research assistant by Professor G. Robert Blakey, the author of the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).  He assisted Professor Blakey with a study of common law criminal procedure and appellate systems for the government of the United Kingdom.  After graduation he served as a Judicial Clerk to the Second Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Paul Maloney in Berrien County.

 

Ryan is a Shiawassee County native and lives in Owosso with his wife and children.
